    What is a
    cloud-shaped ancon?

Cloud-shaped ancon are structures that support the eaves of Japanese houses, and are decorated with the shape of a cloud. Each craftsman has their own original carving style as a sign of pride and proof of the Hida carpenters' reputation as a "Hida master." Various patterns of cloud-shaped ancon can be seen on houses throughout the town, and there are about 170 different types.
